Just a short bike ride from Boulder Creek Apartments , is a favorite of many residents, The Phoenix Zoo.  Since its doors first opened in 1962, the zoo has been providing endless entertainment opportunities to millions of residents and visitors to Phoenix.  In fact, the The zoo currently draws 1.5 million visitors each year, making it the largest year-round attraction in Arizona.  Unlike many city zoos, Phoenix Zoo is privately owned and is entirely funded by donations from the community and corporations in Arizona and throughout the country. 

The Phoenix Zoo is conveniently located near Boulder Creek Apartments in Papago Park .  The zoo occupies roughly 125 acres of Phoenix's treasured Papago Park , making it one of the largest privately owned zoos in the country, and the largest zoo in Arizona.  There are roughly 1,300 animals, as well as exhibits highlighting various habitats such as the native Arizona environment, the Tropics and Africa.  The Phoenix Zoo also features a botanical garden that showcases 1,200 different varieties of plants, including many examples from the local Sonora Desert.

The zoo features many activities and programs tailored toward children.  The Fischer-Price® Little People® Discovery Farm™ features interactive life size versions of the popular childrens toys for children between the ages of 18 months and 5 years old.  Adjacent to the entry there is a carousel featuring various endangered animals.  Yakulla Caverns offers and exciting cave environment for children to explore, climb and jump around.
