Papago Park, designated as a Phoenix Point of Pride, is a geologically unique desert park featuring several large red rock formations. The most notable formation is a large peak with an enormous opening that has eroded through the stone. The stone formations in this park have been dated from 6-15 million years old and may have been used to track the solstices by the now extinct Hohokam tribe that lived in Phoenix area from 300-1200 a.d.
